High School
In high school football last night…
- Negaunee buried Houghton 42-6.
- Calumet cruised past Gladstone 46-3. The Copper Kings got off to a quick start with two first-quarter touchdowns, on a 19-yard Tyler Halonen run, and a 60-yard Ben Anderson punt return. Anderson added 9-yard and 19-yard scoring runs in the second quarter, before a 36-yard field goal by Luke Inghram put the Braves on the board in the closing seconds of the first half. Anderson struck again, with a 4-yard scoring run on the opening drive of the second half. After an Oskar Loukus interception, Halonen scored on a 4-yard run. Keith Koivisto raced 24 yards for the Kings’ final score as the reserves took over the game in the fourth quarter. Anderson finished with 186 yards rushing on 19 carries. Halonen ran 10 times for 73 yards, and completed 1 of 2 passes for 5 yards. Gladstone, which scored 34 points last week against Houghton, was held to just 96 yards of offense, including 48 yards on 4-of-16 passing by quarterback Vinny Rebholz.

In high school volleyball today, Calumet will compete against Marquette, Kingsford and Forest Park at the Clash of the Divisions Quad meet at Kingsford.

College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team claimed a 3-1 victory over the University of Alaska last night. Jack Anderson’s first-period goal gave the Huskies an early lead. Noah Reinhart scored the eventual game-winner in the third period. After a late goal by the Nanooks, Max Koskipirtti sealed the win with an empty-netter. Owen Bartoszkiewicz made 25 saves. Those teams play again tonight in Fairbanks.
The Northern Michigan hockey squad took 19th-ranked Colorado College into overtime last night, before falling 2-1. Medrick Bolduc scored for the Wildcats, who got 43 saves from Oliver Auyeung-Ashton. The ‘Cats host the Tigers again this evening.
College Volleyball
Both the Tech and Northern volleyball teams are in Hammond, Indiana for the Midwest Regional Crossover…
- The Huskies dropped a 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-18) decision to Indianapolis in their afternoon contest, then fell 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 26-24, 23-25, 15-7) to Ohio Dominican last night. MTU will face Walsh this afternoon.
- The Wildcats lost 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-14) to Findlay in their afternoon contest, and 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-22) to Quincy last evening. NMU takes on Ashland this afternoon.
College Football
The Tech football team hosts top-ranked Ferris State today at noon.
Northern football plays at Roosevelt in Chicago this afternoon.
College Soccer
The MTU women’s soccer team fell 2-0 at Davenport last evening. The Huskies play at Saginaw Valley State tomorrow.
The NMU women’s soccer team lost 4-0 at Saginaw Valley yesterday, and visit Davenport tomorrow.
The NMU men’s soccer squad dropped a 3-1 decision at Davenport yesterday, and plays at Saginaw Valley tomorrow morning.
MLB
The Brewers’ season ended with a 5-1 loss to the Dodgers last night. Shohei Ohtani gave L-A all the runs needed with a three-run homer in the first inning. He went on to hit two more homers, along with holding Milwaukee to two hits over six scoreless innings on the mound while striking out 10. The Dodgers sweep the National League Championship Series 4-0.
The Mariners stomped the Blue Jays 6-2 last night, and took a 3-2 lead the American League Championship Series. Game six will be staged tomorrow night in Toronto.
NHL
The Red Wings won their fourth straight game last night, shading the Lightning 2-1 in overtime. Axel Sandin-Pellikka scored his first NHL goal early for Detroit, and Dylan Larkin netted the game-winner. After having been relegated to the bench after his opening-night struggles, John Gibson returned to the net and made 31 saves for the Wings.
Detroit hosts Edmonton tomorrow afternoon. Coverage will begin at 2:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Lucas Raymond missed his second straight game because of the upper-body injury he suffered early this week. Detroit coach Todd McLellan said Raymond might be ready to play tomorrow.
NFL
The Packers visit the Cardinals for a 4:25 game tomorrow.
The Lions host the Buccaneers in the first of two Sunday night contests. Coverage will begin at 6:00 on 99.3 The Lift.
