Houghton’s Holly Cooke and Jeffers’ Cameron Anderson reign as the top girls and boys cross country runners in the Western Peninsula Athletic Conference this fall.
Houghton won the girls conference title, and Gremlins coach Traci Welch was named Coach of the Year. Jeffers won the boys conference title, with Sam Kilpela honored as Coach of the Year.
Houghton also dominated the All-Conference Girls Team, with Sela Niska, Jovie Williams, Norah Woodruff and Romi Mattson joining Cooke on the roster. Calumet’s Elli Harju, Maija Keranen and Bethany McParlan were honored, along with Hancock’s Jill Berg and Lydia Pelli.
Jeffers was equally dominant on the All-Conference Boys Team, with Landon Larson, Branson Anderson, Blake Heltunen and Brexton Kinnunen joining Anderson on the squad. Houghton runners Ben Hemmer, Brandon Van Karsen, Anderson Limkemann and Gabe Hjerstedt were also named.
