In high school volleyball last night…
- Lake Linden-Hubbell outlasted Wakefield-Marenisco 3-2 (11-25, 25-19, 16-25, 25-19, 15-8), in a game that was moved up from tonight because of transportation issues. Payton Goldsworthy had 25 assists, 6 kills and 8 aces. Cleo Milkey had 13 kills. Emily Burnham had 7 blocks and 3 kills.
- Baraga swept L’Anse 3-0.
In volleyball this evening…
- Houghton travels to Negaunee.
- Calumet plays at Hancock. Coverage will begin around 6:10 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.
- Chassell hosts Ewen-Trout Creek
- West Iron County journeys to Westwood.
The Houghton cross country teams swept the Dale Fountain Invitational at Stephenson yesterday…
- On the boys side, Benjamin Hemmer finished first individually, with teammates Brandon Van Karson third, Anderson Limkemann sixth and Xavier Hutchinson seventh.
- On the girls side, Sela Niska and Norah Woodruff placed second and third, with Jovie Williams seventh, and Romi Mattson ninth.

The Tigers wasted a good outing by Jack Flaherty in a 4-0 loss to the Guardians last night. Flaherty allowed one run over five innings. Detroit collected only four hits – two by Parker Meadows.
The Tigers have lost five of their last six, and host the Guardians again this afternoon. Tarik Skubal will start against Tanner Bibee. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
With 11 games to play in the regular season, the Tigers’ lead over the Guardians in the American League Central Division has shunk to four-and-a-half games.
The Brewers clobbered the Angels 9-2 last evening. Brandon Woodruff gave up a run over five innings, as his impressive return from major surgery continues. Sal Frelick homered as the Brewers plated five runs in the second inning. Blake Perkins drove in five runs.
The Brewers entertain the Angels again tonight. Quinn Priester will pitch against Yusei Kikuchi.
Milwaukee will finish the regular season without starter Jose Quintana. He’s been added to the injured list with a left calf strain. If all goes well, he could return for the playoffs. The Brewers brought Nick Mears back from the injured list.
NFL
In tonight’s NFL game, the Bills host the Dolphins. Coverage will begin at 7:00 on 99.3 The Lift.
