A Keweenaw Peninsula man will plead guilty to one count of possession of child sexual abuse material and will waive his right to a preliminary examination in district court.
On Wednesday Raymond Reed-VanDam waived his right to a preliminary examination in district court and will have his case bound over to the Houghton County 12th circuit court after agreeing to accept a plea deal.
Reed-VanDam was originally charged with two counts of aggravated possession of child sexual abuse material, one count of distributing CSAM material, and three counts of using a computer to commit a crime. He was released on a 150,000 bond after his arraignment on September 3rd. Reed-VanDam will be allowed access to a phone to contact his attorney Karl Numinen, and supervised contact with his expected child. Prosecutor Dan Helmer did note the charge is a registerable offense, and Reed-VanDam will be required to register a sex offender.
A court date has not yet been set in circuit court where Reed-VanDam is expected to plead guilty to one count of possession. The one count of possession of child sexual abuse material carries up to a four-year jail sentence, and a fine up to 10,000 dollars.
