Fashion comes in waves. And what might have been popular over 150 years ago, just might come back into fashion. Next week calumet celebrates 150 years as a community. The Friends of Fashion group plan to join the village and celebrate the area’s rich heritage.
Friends of Fashion member Sandra Engel says the attendees of the village’s festivities may see a glimpse of the past brought to the present when Friends of Fashion wear authentic period clothing and garments.
And you will hear lots of stories from 1900 to the 60s. The name of our show is corsets to crenelins. People know crenelins better than cancans. And corsets started at the turn of the century and women got tired of being bound up and threw them out the door. And eventually styles changed. And in the 60s, where we end our show, women wanted big can cans. – Sandra Engel, Chairperson, Friends of Fashion
The Friends of Fashion group meet in Chassell, and work together to preserve local fashion pieces, as a part of the Chassell Historical Organization. The group has a collection of garments including 19th century dresses, early 1900’s coats and top hats, and other examples. The Friends of Fashion will join Calumet’s celebration on September 12th. The fashion show will begin at 7 pm.
