MLB
Kerry Carpenter’s three-run homer in the seventh inning sealed the Tigers’ 6-2 victory over the Mets yesterday. Casey Mize gave up a run on five hits over five innings, and earned his 13th win of the season. Colt Keith had two hits and scored twice.
The Tigers take today off, and welcome the White Sox tomorrow night. Jack Flaherty will start against Shane Smith. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Reliever Kyle Finnegan felt tightness in a groin muscle while warming up in the bullpen last night. He’ll be examined today.
As expected, pitcher Chris Paddack has been placed on the bereavement list because of a death in the family. Keider Montero has been brought up from Tolado to fill in.
The Brewers scored five runs in the first inning, and cruised to a 6-3 win over the Phillies last night. The early outburst was powered by a three-run Isaac Collins homer. Jose Quintana pitched into the seventh to pick up his 11th victory of the season.
The Brewers host the Phillies again this afternoon. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Ranger Suárez.
Christian Yelich was scratched from last night’s line-up with lower back pain. He’ll miss today’s game as well, and is considered day-to-day.
Milwaukee reliever Shelby Miller is done for the season. Miller felt a pop in his elbow during Monday’s game. He may be facing Tommy John ligament replacement surgery, which would likely keep him out for at least a year. It would be the second such surgery of his career. Joel Payamps was called up from Nashville to fill Miller’s roster spot.

Newly-acquired linebacker Micah Parsons was listed as a limited participant in Packers’ practice yesterday. He’s dealing with a painful back injury, and his status for Sunday’s opener against the Lions remains uncertain.
With just two quarterbacks on the roster, the Lions hosted five hopefuls for a practice squad tryout session yesterday. The favorite seems to be C.J. Beathard, who has spent time with the 49ers and Jaguars.
