In high school volleyball last evening…
- At a triangular at Dollar Bay-Tamarack City, Hancock defeated Chassell 2-0 (25-12, 25-13). Elli Kuntze had three aces for the Panthers. Chassell drimmed the host Blue Bolts 2-1 (25-27, 25-16, 25-23). Kuntze had five aces, 15 kills and 15 digs, Dusty Lippold had seven kills, four aces, and seven digs, and Sylvia Aho had two aces, six digs and 22 assists. Hancock defeated Dollar Bay 2-1 (25-22, 25-18, 25-20).
- Lake Linden-Hubbell took a tight 3-2 victory over Baraga (25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 22-25, 16-14).
- Jeffers swept Gwinn 3-0 (25-22, 25-9, 25-19). Kylee Andrews had four aces for the Jets, and Mia Nordstrom had 16 kills.
- L’Anse fell to Westwood 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-18).
- Ewen-Trout Creek shaded Wakefield-Marenisco 3-2 (25-16, 15-25, 26-24, 20-25, 15-11).
The Houghton boys soccer team plays at Marquette this evening.

MLB
The Tigers suffered an ugly 12-5 loss to the Mets last night. Sawyer Gipson-Long gave up six runs on five hits over four innings. Chris Paddack, who was recently demoted to the bullpen, allowed the other six runs on eight hits in the seventh inning. Wenceel Pérez had three hits for the Tigers, and walked two times.
The Tigers have dropped seven of their last 11, and will try to salvage one game of their home set against the Mets this afternoon. Casey Mize will start against Clay Holmes. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Paddack revealed after the game that a close family member had just passed away. He’ll be out several days on the bereavement list.
Gipson-Long was called up from Toledo to make the start. Reliever Bailey Horn came back with him. Pitchers Chase Lee and Drew Sommers were sent down.
The Brewers had yesterday off, and resume their home set against the Phillies again this evening. Jose Quintana will pitch against Aaron Nola.
