Twilight Baseball League
Northern Driveline shaded REL-Mohawk Technology 7-6 in the opening game of the Copper Country Twilight Baseball League tournament last evening.
That sets up tomorrow’s semifinals…
- Northern Driveline will face top-seed Garnet Garage at 6:30 at the Houghton field.
- Houghton Building Supply Stanton will take on Craig Heinonen Coldwell Banker at 6:30 at the Stanton field.
The championship game will be played next Tuesday.

Jack Flaherty struggled again, as the Tigers fell to the White Sox 9-6 last night. Flaherty opened strong, with four shutout innings. The wheels fell off in the fifth, when he recorded just one out. He was charged with five Chicago runs, although one run was walked in by reliever Brant Hurter. The Sox plated four more runs over the next three innings against Hurter, Codi Heuer and Tommy Kahnle. Dillon Dingler and Colt Keith homered for Detroit.
The Tigers wrap up that home set against the White Sox this afternoon. Keider Montero will pitch against Shane Smith. Coverage will begin at 1:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers won their 11th straight last night, pounding the Pirates 14-0. Pittsburgh ace Paul Skenes gave up homers to Sal Frelick and Brice Turang, and left after the fourth inning. Christian Yelich, Andrew Vaughn and Caleb Durbin also homered for the Crew. Freddy Peralta allowed just three hits over six innings, and earned his 14th win of the season.
The Brewers welcome the Pirates again this afternoon. Brandon Woodruff will pitch against Mitch Keller.
Milwaukee starter Jacob Misiorowski will return from the injured list Friday. He’ll either make an abbreviated start for the Brewers, or a rehab start at Nashville.

The Copper Country Horseshoe League tournament begins this evening…
- Top seed Dreamland One plays Luigi’s Bar at the Dreamland.
- Second seed Calumet One takes on Houghton Building Supply at Agassiz Park.
- Third seed Fine Line Tire meets Calumet Electronics at the Calumet Dam.
- Fourth seed Harter’s Party Store faces Eva’s Hideaway at the Gipp Recreation Area.
Round two of the double elimination tournament will be played Monday.
NFL
Packers quarterback Jordan Love underwent surgery to repair some ligament damage in his left thumb yesterday. Love suffered the injury in Saturday’s preseason game when his hand hit a teammate’s helmet. The procedure was described as minor. He’s expected to return to practice next week, and be ready to start on opening day.
