MLB
The Tigers survived a rare off-night for Tarik Skubal, and buried the Athletics 11-4 last night. After rain delayed the start of the game, Skubal gave up two runs in the first, and two more in the second. He settled in, and finished six innings, to earn his ninth win of the season. The Tigers got two in the first on a Kerry Carpenter home run, then surged ahead in the third inning on a two-run double by Wenceel Pérez, and a three-run Dillon Dingler home run. Riley Greene had four hits. The Tigers are the first team in Major League Baseball to reach the 50-win mark this season.
The Tigers host the A’s again tonight. Jack Flaherty will pitch against Jacob Lopez. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Former Tigers reliever John Brebbia, who was recently released, has signed a minor league deal with the Braves.
Joey Ortiz slugged two home runs, as the Brewers trounced the Pirates 9-3 last evening. Freddy Peralta tossed five scoreless innings, but left as Oakland scored three in the sixth. Chad Durbin had two hits and drove in three runs.
The Brewers host the Pirates again this afternoon. Jacob Misiorowski will start against Paul Skenes.
Garrett Mitchell’s return to the Brewers has been put on indefinite hold. Mitchell reinjured his surgically repaired shoulder in a rehab game at Nashville last week. He’ll need surgery again.
