High School
Two local high school teams are still playing.
The Jeffers baseball team faces Norway in a regional semifinal tomorrow in Felch. Coverage will begin at 4:45 on KBear 102.3. Pickford will play Harbor Light Christian in the other semifinal at Rudyard. The regional championship game will be played Saturday at Rudyard.
The Lake Linden-Hubbell softball team will play Superior Central Saturday morning at 11 in Ishpeming. Norway and Gogebic will play in the other semifinal at 1, and the title game will be staged at 3.
Twilight Baseball League

MLB
Kerry Carpenter blasted three home runs, as the Tigers routed the White Sox 13-1 last night. Carpenter drove in five runs. Dillon Dingler and Wenceel Pérez also homered. Jack Flaherty gave up a run on four hits over six innings, and earned the win.
Detroit visits the White Sox again tonight. Sawyer Gipson-Long could be activated off the injured list to start for the Tigers, against Shane Smith. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Parker Meadows returned to the Tigers last night, after missing the entire season with a nerve issue in his throwing arm.
The Tigers made room for Gipson-Long’s potential return by designating pitcher Ryan Cusick for assignment. They opened a slot for Meadows by sending Justyn-Henry Malloy down to Toledo.
The Brewers shaded the Reds 3-2 last night. Christian Yelich’s solo home run in the top of the third inning broke a 2-2 tie. Aaron Civale pitched into the sixth to earn his first win of the season.
The Brewers have won eight straight, and visit the Reds again tonight. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Hunter Greene.
NFL
One of the Detroit Lions’ most stalwart offensive linemen is calling it quits. Center Frank Ragnow announced his retirement yesterday at age 29. Over seven seasons, Ragnow made four Pro Bowls, but he played through a succession of serious injuries, including an inoperable toe injury that caused pain every time he played. He’s being lauded by coaches and teammates as one of the toughest Lions in team history.
