There is always a good reason to celebrate.
Next week, the Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home invites the Copper Country to celebrate with staff and volunteers, to honor 45 years of supporting survivors in the Keweenaw Peninsula. The shelter home was one of the first facilities to gain state funding. The shelter was established by Herman ” Winks” Gundlach, in honor of his wife, who was an advocate for women’s issues and violence prevention.
People support us in many ways and it just keeps going because of that. People know about it, and of course, the name of the person who gave it to us is certainly helpful, Barbara Kettle Gundlach. She was an activist in women’s issues and Winks donated the first place to us in memory of her. – Mary Niemela, Executive Director, Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home
The 45th-anniversary celebration dinner with Barba Kettle Gundlach will limit seating to 100. BKG will host the dinner at Gino’s Restuarant in Hancock. The event will begin at 5 pm on May 19th. Dinner will be served at 6 pm. Attendees will enjoy a program about the shelter’s history, music, a silent auction, and socializing. A single seat costs $50, and for a table for two registration costs $90. A group of six can reserve a table for $250. Find contact information for the Barbara Kettle Gundlach 45th Anniversary Dinner on the provided poster.
Throughout the year BKG hosts and collaborates with area non–profits to raise awareness for abuse survivors. The dinner, which helps support the shelter as one of several fundraisers, also spreads awareness. In June the BKG Shelter will invite the Copper Country to the 12th annual golf scramble in Calumet.
