In golf, the Houghton Invitational scheduled for today has been called off. Instead local teams will be competing at the Baraga Invitational at the L’Anse Golf Club, which was rescheduled from last week.
MLB
The Tigers couldn’t hold an early lead, and dropped a 6-4 decision to the Astros last night. Kerry Carpenter’s seventh home run of the season in the first inning got Detroit off to a quick start. Gleyber Torres’ RBI single in the fifth made it 2-0, but Houston chased starter Reese Olson from the game with three in the sixth, and added three in the seventh to take control. Torres narrowed the gap with a two-run homer in the ninth.
The Tigers will try to salvage one game of that series at Houston this afternoon. Jackson Jobe will pitch against AJ Blubaugh, who will be making his major league debut. Coverage will begin at 1:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Tigers reliever Beau Brieske is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with the West Michigan Whitecaps tonight. He’s been out with an inflamed ankle. Outfielder Manuel Margot started a rehab stint with the Mud Hens last evening. He’s recovering from a patellar tendon strain.
Freddy Peralta gave up back-to-back home runs in the first inning, but recovered, as the Brewers bounced the White Sox 7-2 last night. Peralta turned in six innings to get the win. Isaac Collins homered for Milwaukee.
That series continues in Chicago tonight. Tobias Myers will start against Shane Smith.
Brandon Woodruff will make a rehab start with Milwaukee’s Wisconsin Timber Rattlers farm team tonight, as he continues his recovery from major shoulder surgery.
NBA
In NBA Eastern Conference quarterfinals last night…
- The Pistons stayed alive with a 106-103 victory over the Knicks. Cade Cunningham scored 24 points, and Jalen Duren grabbed 14 rebounds. New York leads the series 3-2. Game six will be played in Detroit tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 7:05 on 99.3 The Lift.
- Another remarkable triple double by Giannis Antetokounmpo wasn’t enough, as the Bucks’ season ended with a 119-118 overtime loss to the Pacers. Antetokounmpo had 30 points, 20 rebounds and a dozen assists. Gary Trent, Jr, added 33 points, but Indiana scored the final eight points of the game to claims the series 4-1.
- The Celtics dispatched the Magic 120-89. Boston takes that set 4-1.
In the Western Conference…
- The Nuggets outscored the Clippers 131-115. Denver leads that set 3-2.
In the Western Conference tonight…
- The Warriors visit the Rockets. Golden State is up 3-1 in that series.
- The Timberwolves visit the Lakers. Minnesota leads that set 3-1.
NHL
In NHL Eastern Conference quarterfinal play last evening…
- The Senators shut down the Maple Leafs 4-0. Toronto leads that series 3-2.
- The Hurricanes shaded the Devils 5-4 in double overtime. Carolina advances with a 4-1 series win.
In the Western Conference…
- The Golden Knights pulled out a 3-2 overtime win over the Wild. Vegas takes a 3-2 lead in that series.
- The Oilers stopped the Kings 3-1. Edmonton grabs a 3-2 lead in that set.
In the Eastern Conference this evening…
- The Capitals host the Canadiens. Washington leads that series 3-1.
- The Panthers visit the Lightning. Florida is up 3-2 in that series.

- The Blues visit the Jets. That set is tied 2-2.
