The Keweenaw Community Foundation announces it will award 63,050 dollars from its fall 2024 field of interest grants.
Last week the Keweenaw Community Foundation announced that 63,050 dollars will be awarded by six grant funds.
The Community Impact fund will award 7500 dollars, and support five organizations. The community impact grants support programs that fight food insecurity, winter clothes, organize the Upper Peninsula LGBTQIA+ community, the Portage Lake district library, and the arts.
The Copper Shores Wellness and Outdoor Recreation Fund supports accessible recreation projects and programs promoting disabled recreation in 2024 with 40,000 dollars worth of grant awards.
The Keweenaw Cross Country Skiing Fund will support youth programs and trail events in the Copper Country. That fund awarded 2500 dollars to the Copper Country Ski Tigers, Hancock Trails Club, and Swedetown Trails Club.
The environmental fund will award two grants totaling 2600 dollars. And the Houghton County Historical Preservation Fund will support purchasing hard hats and lamps for the Painesdale Mine and Shaft with a 450-dollar grant.
The Kellogg youth endowment fund for grants, which is selected by the youth advisory council, totals 10000 dollars and supports seven programs and projects focused on the Copper Country’s youth.

- Third Coast Diving and Adaptive Recreation: Copper Country SCUBA Discovery and Adaptive Diving
- Village of Laurium: Get Active Initiative: Splashing Through Laurium

- Ahmeek Village Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department: Hazardous Materials Spill Response Equipment
Houghton County Historical Preservation Fund ($450):
- Painesdale Mine and Shaft, Inc.: Hard Hats & Head Lamps
